A Homemade Life
September 27th 2009 00:10
For a while now, I have been reading a food blog called Orangette. Written by Molly Wizenberg, the blog is beautifully written and each recipe Molly has created comes with it's own back story which never fails to inspire me.
At dinner the other night, a good friend brought along Molly's book, A Homemade Life. Considering we had never discussed that we both read Molly's blog, it was one of those moments when I realised once again why we are such good friends.
I began reading the book on Friday, and yesterday afternoon (Saturday) I had finished reading it and had made one of Molly's delicious recipes, which I will share with you soon.
A Homemade Life tells Molly's story of growing up, her relationship with her father who died while she was quite young, and then the remarkable story of how she met her husband, Brandon. Each chapter is concluded with a recipe which was significant to the time.
I literally swooned through the whole thing!
For all those of you out there who are looking for love, Molly and Brandon's relationship is the stuff of fairytales. It began when Brandon stumbled across Molly's blog and emailled her to say how beautiful he thought her writing was, and were she not living way across America in Seattle, that he would take her out to dinner to enjoy some of the best food in New York. They began corresponding and it wasn't long before they were visiting each other regularly and then Brandon made the move to Seattle so they could be together. They have since married and now own a restaurant together.
I encourage everyone to visit Molly's blog. She is not posting as much these days, what with a new business to take care of, but even a dedicated trawl through her back catalogue is well worth the time.
