Cooking Resolutions 2011
January 15th 2011 22:39
It’s the middle of January and I’m been thinking about the cooking goals I want to achieve this year.
Number one on this list has to be making my own lemonade, as it is the only thing off 2010’s resolutions which I did not complete. I have been eagerly saving my Grolsch bottles and now it’s just a matter of *patiently* waiting for the lemons on the tree to ripen up.
Another thing I would like to do this year is make my own gnocchi. Years and years ago, my sister and I spent a painstaking afternoon boiling, kneading and rolling our own gnocchi, but by the time it came round to us actually eating them, we couldn’t even look at the things. I am hoping the process is much easier these days, and that with a little more cooking experience under my belt, this will be a wonderful adventure.
The veggie patch production has fallen behind a bit at the moment, so I wouldn’t mind trying to get that back on track. It’s about time to begin sewing the seeds for broccoli and cauliflower, and I might also look for a few other winter veg to put in as well.
Another culinary goal for this year is to properly index my recipe books. These books are where I copy out recipes that I have found in magazines, or borrowed books, or put down recipes from friends. These days I like to try-out the recipe before going to the effort of actually writing it out, but early on I was keen to collect as many good looking recipes as I could, even to the point where when I look back now I have occasionally put down two very similar recipes and in actual fact have so far made neither.
Following on from this point, I am going to make it a goal this year to make all of the recipes in one of the hand-written books I own. They are usually contain a pretty good range of things, so I am not worried about maintaining a healthy diet – although some of the books do contain a large number of desserts, many more than I would usually make. Shall we have a vote which book I do? Leave your comments as to whether you think the orange, the pink, the purple or the aqua is the way to go. The dark green book is the one I am currently using, and only has a dozen or so recipes in it, although, I have to admit, I haven’t tried all of these as yet either.
