Dinner at Silk
August 30th 2008 07:05
Last night the girls all caught up for dinner at Silk on Rundle Street, Adelaide. After an initial flurry of menus, mainly over what bottle of wine to choose, there was the mandatory selections of four or five dishes from which we would all share.
For entrée it was a unanimous decision. “Three serves of the spring onion pancakes please.” And they were delicious. Served with a sweet chilli sauce, the pancakes are deep fried with the spring onion effectively rolled inside the pancake batter.
For mains we choose honey chicken, sizzling beef with ginger and spring onion, salt and pepper tofu, mixed greens and fried and steamed rice. The honey chicken was my favourite (I do have a bit of a sweet tooth) and the greens were cooked to perfection. They had just enough crunch, and were delicately flavoured. The ginger from the beef was quite strong, but not unpleasant and the tofu was crisp on the outside and soft in the middle.
After some deliberation, we decided to check out a new gelati shop for dessert – even though it was only about 10 degrees C. The new store Gelissimo (I am not sure of the spelling) was unfortunately very busy, with no free tables, so we hopped across the street to Chocolat where as a group we had gelati, hot chocolates and truffles. Some would say that the hot chocolates were the better option for a cold night, but I think gelati warms you from the inside!
