On the weekend I headed out with a couple of friends to the Good Food and Wine Show. Hoping to pick up a few specialty bits and pieces to fill my pantry, I was looking forward to the adventure and new tastes to try.
We arrived in time to take our seats for a cooking demonstration with George and Gary from Masterchef. A few anecdotes thrown in about how things go down on the show and a little bit of making fun of absent co-hosts, George and Gary were pretty entertaining. They made some delicious looking dishes including salmon, prawn tortellini, hummus 'wrapped' prawns and a delicious looking roast beetroot salad. They have inspired me to make some more fresh pasta – I am thinking pumpkin and ricotta tortellini, perhaps even a double batch to chuck some of them in the freezer for an easy mid-week meal.
The food and wine stalls at the event were a bit of a let down. I was hoping for exotic spices, direct from grower produce…basically things I couldn’t normally get in the shops. Instead, I didn’t find anything unique, or even particularly interesting. There was quite a lot of wine tasting available, but again, there wasn't really anything that appealed.
So - to sum up - if you are thinking about going, (the show is still to be on in other states I believe) book into a show, but don't put too much emphasis on the stalls.
