Honey and peanut popcorn

April 8th 2010 08:50
popcorn

We have been getting into a few movies lately, mainly watched at home on DVD with our projector. The at-home cinema has a few perks - comfortable couches, no need to travel and certainly a reduced ticket price! But there was one thing missing... that overwhelming popcorn smell that hits you when you enter a cinema complex.

I used to work in a cinema (and still have fond memories of doing so) however, I did always wonder what was in the bright yellow flavouring that was added to the popcorn popper... probably better not to know...

A favourite job of mine at the cinema was making choc-tops!! I can still do the wrist action required to coat the icecream evenly and create that hard chocolate layer... but I digress.

The one thing that was missing from Cinema Randell was popcorn - so we made some!

Honey and peanut popcorn

1 tbs olive oil
1/3 cup popping corn
2 tbsp peanut butter (I like crunchy)
2 tbsp honey

Heat oil in a saucepan. Once warmed up, chuck in a few kernels, if they spin the oil is hot enough for the lot. Add popcorn, cover and cook over medium heat until all the kernels have popped.

Remove popcorn.

Heat peanut butter and honey in the saucepan. Once smooth and melted, add popcorn back to the pan and stir until coated.

It's pretty good!

Hi Helen,

Now you're just being mischievous. This is the stuff of a temptress. It is irresponsible. You obviously just don't care about the fact that I have exercised three times this week and am on schedule to lose weight measurable, quite possibly, in dozens of grams.

Not any more.

Do you have a recipe for the choc-tops too?

Sorry Chris - you'll have to be responsible for your own calorie intake

Not much of a recipe in the choc top area - as far as I remember you take a small cone, push a perfectly round scope of vanilla icecream into the cone, then, with fingers-crossed, lower the icecream into a bowl of melted chocolate, twist and pull up, hopefully without loosing the icecream out of the cone!

It was a pretty good job.
