...or is it afternoon tea

November 4th 2008 07:49
I have a new contender for the best meal stakes. Perhaps it is not brunch, perhaps it is afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea allows as many options for sweet and savoury as brunch does, but there is an extra element of naughtiness that goes with it. Somewhere, not far from your immediate consciousness, is the thought that it will be dinner time soon and that you shouldn’t eat too much otherwise you won’t be able to fit in your vegetables…..

Vegetable schmegetables!

This past Sunday, the girls and I spent a particularly lazy afternoon sunning ourselves on the deck, enjoying our afternoon tea of potato and leek tartlets, rocky-road muffins, cheese, biscuits, dip and fruit. There was also an odd glass of champagne going around.

Afternoon tea means that you don’t have to get up as early, there is time in the morning to do a few things and nobody has to create an entire meal on their own. Splendid!
