Recipe storage

How do you keep track of your recipes?
I have written here before about keeping recipes on the fridge so they are in sight, and then having a clean up and removing them all another spot where I can never find the ones I am actually after. Well, as a gift for my birthday, my mother-in-law bought me a recipe box, with index cards for entrees, mains, dessert, vegetables etc. The box also contains blank recipe cards which are designed to be written on.
As mentioned before, I am working on a new system where I don’t write out recipes until I actually try them, which brings me back to the mess on the fridge and the subsequent mess of loose magazine pages in the kitchen.
So, to best utilise the recipe box until I have tried some recipes to write on the cards, I came up with the idea to store all my loose magazine pages in the different sections of the box. By categorising them properly, I have already found I can better find the recipes I know I have, and secondly, when I am looking for a new dish to make – for example, a vegetable side - I can go to that index card and look through the half a dozen or so recipes I have and pick one that is suitable. It’s working well to cut down on the mess and bring some form of order to the system.
Do you have a good system? How do you keep on top of the recipes you want to try out?
