Resolution checklist...
January 2nd 2012 05:52
Ok - so I think it might be time to fess up...
Of my 2011 Cooking Resolutions I have completed somewhere around half... which sounds ok, until you realise that I only had four resolutions to begin with.
The resolutions started off with a bang - literally, when in August, I made some home-made lemonade. Delicious to drink, and pretty easy to make, I made double batches which were lovingly shared, except for a couple of bottles which still were left on the shelf.
It was a quiet spring night and Mr Rough Cooking and I had just finished dinner when, from in the laundry came two loud bangs and then the sound of glass tinkering on the floor. Gingerly, we opened the door to find the last two bottles of lemonade were no longer intact, but stuck to the walls, our camping gear, the washing machine and our shelving. Eeeek! Moral of the story, don't leave your homemade lemonade sitting on the shelf in glass bottles for too long - either drink it, or store it in PET bottle inside.
The veggie patch is back in production and we have lots of tomatoes, eggplant and zucchini coming along.
I've also spent the last couple of days making apricot jam, and I have an apricot chutney recipe I want to give a go soon as well - that's what you do when you have a glut of fruit.
My resolution to make gnocchi just hasn't happened (come on 2012) and my resolution to make EVERYTHING in my orange recipe book with the flower has not been completed - however I am still working on this one.
From the orange book with flowers, I have made:
Fudgy Mud Cake (although I do promise to make this again and hope for success)
Mayonaise
Carne Asada Salad
Jelly Slice
Chicken stock
Beef Stroganoff
Quick Chilli Con Carne
Macaroni Pies
Fried Rice
Moist Carrot and Ginger cake
Zucchini Slice
Chocolate Cointreau Mousse
Mushroom and leek tarttext goes here
Shortcrust pastry
Quiche
Roast lemon potatoes
Boysenberry Creams
Pumpkin Risotto
Triple Choc Brownies
Impossible Pie
Lemon Meringue Pie
Middle Eastern Chicken Curry
Orange Chicken Risotto
Balsamic onion and chicken burgers
Thai beef salad
Low-fat Caesar Salad
Hmmm - actually, that looks like I have done quite a lot! Although, the picture up the top shows the tagged pages as ones I am yet to make - quite a lot there too!
I'm going to keep going with this goal and see if I can finish off the book by the end of 2012. Just looking through, there are many more recipes in there I want to try, which I still haven't managed to do.
Stay tuned for more 2012 Cooking resolutions in the weeks to come!
