Small Food

Sometimes you feel like eating lots of different things. But is has to be lots of small different things, otherwise you know you won't be able to fit them all in. Tapas, dim sum, small food - whatever you want to call it, it's all good.
A little while ago now, my sister and I created a table full of small food for a family lunch. After scouring through the cookbooks, we came up with a mushroom and goats cheese bruschetta, cheese bites, fried zucchini rounds, empanadas, and a home made pate which we served with grilled ciabatta. We also put out some store bought olives and cheeses.
The pate was certainly the culinary star of the meal. Made very simply, it was a matter of combining chicken livers with butter, sherry and brandy and then baking in the oven in a bain-marie until cooked through.
The bruschetta was made simply by grilling the bread, spreading generously with the goats cheese and then piling high with rocket and sauted mushrooms.
The empanadas, were really cheats pastries, using puff pastry sheets and filling with chopped chorizo, onion, cheese and paprika. Cheating or not, they were delicious!
The fried goodies were also tasty, with the cheese cubes and zucchini rounds dipped in an egg wash and then into some seasoned flour and deep fried. The cheese was particularly good when it was still piping hot, with the outside crunchy with crumbs and the inside soft and gooey.
I also made a tortilla, but skimped on the oil a bit, so when it came time to neatly slice it out of the pan, it was more like a potato and onion spiced jumble. Tasty though.
What's your favourite small food item? And how easy is it to make?
