The shape of things to come

When I suggested star-shaped cupcakes as my contribution to dinner with the girls, there was an insinuation in their response that the shape, rather than the flavour was the real reason for the popularity of these cute desserts.
These days, when we see Huey clean off the plate with his tea towel and watch Nigella coo over her finished dish, we do understand the importance of food presentation, and even Tuesday night meals are subject to the occasional ‘parsley treatment’.
My theory is that star-shaped cupcakes have a certain child-like appeal – and this adds to their fun. And to adapt a favourite quote from the girls “fun food doesn’t have calories.”
Does your food taste better when it’s star-shaped?
Choc Chip Cupcakes (can be made in star-shaped moulds)
100g margarine or butter
100g caster sugar
2 large eggs
100g self raising flour
100g chocolate chips
Place margarine, sugar, eggs and flour into a bowl. Beat with egg beaters until the mixture just comes together. Gently stir in chocolate chips. Spoon mix into cupcake pans, or star shaped tray, and bake for 15-20minutes at 190 degrees. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
