World Famous Burgers
September 14th 2008 23:45
A few years ago when most of our friends were still living at home, we had a mate whose mum made ‘the best burgers’. Now I would like to acknowledge from the outset that I have never seen, let alone eaten these burgers, but they were known throughout the group as Lyn’s World Famous Burgers – so she must have been doing something right.
Did Lyn use a special sauce? Did she only settle for the freshest ingredients? Did she make the buns by hand? Sadly, these and other important questions will never be known as Lyn will not share her secrets and face being de-crowned as the Burger Queen.
So, although these are not ‘World Famous’ I think they’re pretty tasty.
Begin with some good quality mince, I like to add some garlic, onion, cheese, herbs, some breadcrumbs and an egg to hold the whole lot together. Shape the patties with your hands and then gently cook in a frying pan.
Depending on what is in the fridge, my burgers will also contain some of the following: egg, fried onion, lettuce, rocket, tomato, cheese, chutney, cucumber, beetroot, gherkin, mustard.
I also alternate between proper hamburger buns and toast, again depending on how organise I have been in the meal planning department.
Having a little ‘rosebud’ mouth, I always resort to the knife and fork to get through these, but for the true burger experience, it doesn’t hurt to grab it in both hands, struggle to wipe bits off your chin and try your hardest not to spill beetroot on your white shirt!
